Wind & Raindrops

Blues Music played as this Thursdays night Wind and Rain Competition went into swing. Seems fitting that Spring has sprung early and although we haven't gotten much rain, the photography, mixed media and paintings said other wise. Psychedelic Rain photography, thunderstorms and even a painting of a girl in rainboots set the tone for the night.

Banksy at the Oscar's?

Source: http://www.thesimpsons.com/

This Sunday Feb.27 20011 the Oscars will set stage. Snuggled on the sofa Sunday night, hit the Dvr button for the Simpsons. Sitting through the episode and as it gave it's nod to the upcoming Oscar's, there it was "Bansky's" signature. This has been his second appearance on the Simpsons the mysteriously talented artist has made on the show. The first time was when he made a controversial intro for the show back in Oct 2010.
Gorilla street Artist Banksy is one of the nominees for Best Documentary Feature, for his film Exit Through the Gift shop. In the film French immigrant from Los Angeles Thierry Guetta captures his obsession with street art and documenting every waking moment of his experience. More about the film can be found here http://www.banksyfilm.com/videos.html?reload
Now I really will be watching the Oscar's to catch a guessing glimpse of the artist who doesn't make public appearances, has never had his face seen and voice unheard. At one point he even asked the Oscar's if he can accept his award is disguise. A crowd of people with masks of monkeys covering their faces and only one monkey reaching for the award. In turn the Oscar officials turned that idea down in fear of future copycats. Who knows in what form he will appear but I will be watching and hoping for the win.
Banksy did respond saying "This is a big surprise. I don't agree with the concept of award ceremonies, but I'm prepared to make an exception for the ones I'm nominated for. The last time there was a naked man covered in gold paint in my house, it was me."

Mixed Messages Art show

Artis: KPaul

Torn pages from dictionaries with painted ladies and other love notes hung on the wall. Mixed media Art pieces dressed the walls for the Mixed Messages Art Show. Whimsical old pendants hung glued to canvas's like jewelry pieces, dressing the art work of KPaul one of the artists featured at the show. My friend and I read the quotes and poems to and of lovers. The guests in attendance were asked to enter a raffle to win a mini mixed media art piece. As the winner was being announced I heard my name. How funny it was in winning " The Lady Madonna." throughout my home is mini art pieces of Isis and Horus (Mary & Jesus). Now this little masterpiece shall hang and fill yet another space on my wall.

Love is Touch

Music invokes so many emotions thoughts and feelings. For others it can take on color and shape. This piece that I have sculpted is influenced by John Lennon's "Love".
Love is touch, touch is love,
Love is reaching, reaching love,
Love is asking to be loved.
Love is you,
You and me,
John a song writer poet and artist used each art form as a vehicle for his messages. Even if it was in the simple act of love. The whimsical yet poetic act of Love. What stood out in my mind was the simplicity of touch and how easy you can set such an imprint on a person, lasting as long as a life time. Touch is the most powerful mean you have of expressing your love. It is straightforward and unmistakable. As the saying goes "some things are better left unsaid." through touch true words are spoken. A sense we rely so heavily on and can cause so much emotion.

Each month I am hoping to spotlight Music and how it influences Art/Music. This time it was John Lennon and his song "Love" also partnering up with me is a Talented writer, poet, music lover Woosh. She has dedicated a Blog to bringing to light underground, undiscovered musical talent. If your yearning for soulful tunes and artists who make meaningful music that will please your ears, her Blog Sexy Never Left has what your looking for. She does artist interviews, song previews, videos and brings you the latest on Music. We have collaborated to show how Music influences Art and how Art influences Music. Have a Take at Woosh's Blog http://sexy-never-left.blogspot.com/2011/02/john-lennon-had-that-special-gift.html
To hear what John Lennon's work means to her.
